I've been painting since I was three years old. Although I didn't go on to study Fine Art at university, my passion for creativity has always been a constant throughout my life.
After completing my A levels, I pursued a career in nursing, where I discovered the powerful role that art can play in communication and emotional expression. Watching patients use art to express thoughts and feelings they couldn't always put into words sparked a lasting curiosity.
This led me to study Art Psychotherapy at Master's level. Today, I work as an art psychotherapist in schools, hospitals, and private practice, supporting people of all ages. Much of my work is with individuals living with memory loss and those who are neurodivergent. I believe art has the power to connect, heal, and communicate in ways that words sometimes cannot. It is also wonderfully liberating and a great way to reduce stress. I hope to offer a free community group art session in the future so others can experience these benefits.
Alongside my therapeutic work, I continue to paint and renovate garden ornaments. Landscapes are my favourite subject, although my A-level training focused on still life. More recently, I attended life drawing classes in Willersey, which greatly strengthened my figure drawing and painting. The encouragement, expertise, and generosity of the artists there made it an inspiring experience, and I look forward to returning.
I am continually inspired by other artists. One of the most remarkable I've had the privilege of meeting is Willard Wigan, whose extraordinary microscopic sculptures are created inside the eye of a needle using an eyelash as a paintbrush. Hearing him speak about his journey with autism and witnessing his incredible precision was unforgettable. His work is a reminder that creativity has no limits and continues to inspire my own artistic journey.
