Angela Webb - Expressive Coastal Seascape Painting Workshop

Angela will guide you through her techniques for creating expressive coastal and seascape paintings, using acrylic paints.

Time & Location

20 Jun 2026, 10:00 – 16:00

Willersey Village hall, Willersey, Broadway WR12 7PJ, UK

About the event

In this workshop, participants will start the day with a loosening up exercise in acrylics; using a seascape/coastal image as a starting point. We will look at colour mixing and practice different mark making techniques, such as layering, scratching, flicking, dragging and blending.

We will then look at creating a larger seascape/coastal painting. We will work the painting up in oils (or continue with acrylics if you prefer).  Angela will do brief demos of various stages in her process to show how she would approach the building up of a painting.

This workshop should be suitable for all levels.

Please bring:

  • Acrylic paints (and oils, if you would like to work with both. I do)

  • Range of brushes. Large and small.

  • Silicone wedge (if you have one. My favourite is the Catalyst W-01), or old credit cards/scrapers.

  • Palette knives (I prefer the kite shaped ones. The more flexible the blade, the better)

  • Masking tape

  • table easel/easel and something to cover the table

  • Large, flat palette (a stay wet palette is very useful for acrylics. Or a water spray to keep the paint workable)

  • Rags

  • Zest-it (or similar non-toxic solvent if you are using oils)

  • Primed board or canvas to work on (whatever size you are comfortable with.)

  • Sturdy cartridge paper for the loosening up exercise at the beginning - thick enough to take acrylic and drawing mediums.  A2 size would be good.

  • Sturdy scrap paper or spare boards for experimenting and practicing on.

Angela will be painting roughly 30cm x 30cm). Torry’s in Warwick offer a fantastic cutting service if you would like to make up your own primed painting boards. I use 3mm to 5mm thick ply or MDF and prime with water based primer.

Angela is an architect turned artist and teacher living and working in Warwickshire.  She works in most media, but mainly in oils. Her subject matter is broad ranging; from figure work and portraiture to still life and landscape. The observation of life, light and colour are her constant inspirations.
