About the event

Join us for a relaxed, informative workshop suitable for painters of all abilities in all media, who would like to improve their understanding and use of colour. Paints/Colours

The workshop will be a solvent free environment.

Vicki will be using the following Michael Harding paints:

  • Cad yellow lemon

  • Indian yellow red shade

  • transparent oxide yellow or yellow ochre/ raw sienna

  • Cad red light

  • alizarin crimson/alizarin claret/quinacridone rose

  • Ultramarine blue

  • Genuine viridian green (Phthalo blue or cerulean would be fine instead of viridian)

  • Please just bring any reds, yellows and blues you already have and perhaps a yellow earth if you have one.

No solvents at all please. Brushes may be cleaned at home after the workshop with soap. This really must be a solvent free environment. Thank you.

Sundries:

  • Palette

  • Mediums:  Only linseed oil or non solvent based mediums please.

  • Board & tape if needed

  • An easel or table easel.

  • Plenty of kitchen roll or cotton rags for wiping brushes and palette.

  • Covering for the table

  • A bag for your used rags.

  • A smooth flat palette for oils, a stay wet palette for acrylics– use a tea tray/piece of stiff cardboard covered with greaseproof paper if you don’t have a flat palette.

  • A palette knife

Brushes

A couple of small brushes suitable for your chosen medium – we will only make small colour studies/sketches so no need for loads of brushes.

What to paint on and what to prepare it with

Bring watercolour/acrylic paper if using either medium. If using oils for colour studies, bring some oil paper or small panels/canvas. If you only have larger panels you could divide them into smaller sections and use them for multiple studies.

Please note: we will make small colour studies in this workshop. You may choose to bring a large sheet of paper or a canvas panel to be divided into small section for individual studies, or you may bring a selection of small pieces, say up to 6 x 8” each.
